Prof. Amaresh Chakrabarti
Professor and Chairman,CPDM, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, India

Biography - Dr. Amaresh Chakrabarti is professor and Chairman at the Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. He has BE in Mech Engg from Univ. of Calcutta (now IIEST Shibpur), India, ME in Mech Design from IISc, and PhD in Engg Design from Univ. of Cambridge, UK. After PhD, he led for 10 years the Design Synthesis team at the EPSRC Centre for Excellence Engg Design Centre at Univ. of Cambridge, before joining IISc. His interests are in design synthesis & creativity, eco-design & sustainability, and product informatics. He authored/edited 10 books, over 250 peer-reviewed articles, and has 6 patents granted/pending. He co-authored DRM, a methodology used widely as a framework for doing engineering design research. He is an Associate Editor for AI EDAM and Design Science Journal (both Cambridge University Press), Area Editor, Research in Engg Design (Springer), Regional Editor, J for Remanufacturing (Springer), and Advisory Editor for 7 International Journals incl. J of Engg D (Taylor & Francis), Clean Tech & Env. Policy (Springer), and Int J Design Creativity & Innovation (Taylor & Francis). Prof Chakrabarti has been on Advisory Board of Design Society where he is currently elected to its Board of Management, member of CII National Committee on Design India, and member of Jury for India Design Mark, India Design Council. He founded IDeASLab – the first lab in India for research into design creativity, sustainability and innovation. He is Programme chair for Intl Conf on Research into Design (ICoRD), 22nd CIRP Design Conf (CIRP Design 2012), 3rd Intl Conf on Design Creativity (3rd ICDC 2015) and vice-Chair for AI in Design and Design Computing & Cognition Conf series. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineering Designers, the peer society under the UK Royal Charter in engineering design, and recived TUM Ambassador Award from TU Munich Germany. 11 of his papers won top paper awards in international conferences.

Prof. Anil K Srivastava
Professor, University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), Edinburg

Biography - Dr. Anil Srivastava is Professor, Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Department and the Director of Rapid Response Manufacturing Center (RRMC) at the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), Edinburg, TX. Dr. Srivastava received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India in 1985. He moved to McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada in 1988 and conducted research on ‘Intelligent Control of Robotic Grinding Process’. In 1996, he moved to USA and joined Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Science (now TechSolve, Inc.) located in Cincinnati, OH, USA. He served TechSolve Inc. for eighteen (18) years in various capacities, finally working as Chief Technology Officer. In 2003, he won six million ($6,000,000) dollar NIST-ATP award to conduct research on ‘Intelligent Control and Optimization of Grinding Processes’. In 2009, he again received a $700,000 award from the Department of Defense (DoD) to conduct applied research in grinding area. He has also received grants (~$400,000) from National Science Foundation (NSF) to conduct research in ‘Machining of Titanium Alloys’. Dr. Srivastava has been member of several International Technical Organizations such as SME, ASME, and CIRP. He has served on the Board of SME/NAMRI during 2010-2013. He has been reviewer for several International Journals and Technical Proceedings and an editorial board member for the Journal of Manufacturing Technology Research and the International Journal of Nanomanufacturing. He has been an invited/keynote speaker in USA, Brazil, China and India.

Dr. Sudarsan Rachuri
Technology Manager, R & D facilities, US Department of Energy

Biography - Rachuri Sudarsan's career has focused on researching, developing, and applying advanced techniques and algorithms for capturing design and manufacturing knowledge in engineering software applications. Currently he is the federal program manager at the Department of Energy. Sudarsan was the program manager for a multi-million dollar research programs "Smart manufacturing design and analysis" and "Sustainable manufacturing" at NIST. He joined George Washington University (GWU) in 1997 and was promoted as Research Professor after a rigorous tenure process. Sudarsan worked as a guest researcher at NIST through GWU from 1997-2008. During this time he initiated many research programs at NIST. Sudarsan was the advisor to many post doctoral researchers and NIST guest researchers while managing many NIST projects. Sudarsan has made pioneering contributions in the area of design, manufacturing, information models for product engineering, and related standards and best practices. He is also successful in transferring technology to industry. Dr. Rachuri is an ASME Fellow, having been elected in 2012 for his significant contributions in the areas of information and semantic modeling of product life cycle management, and the application of measurement science for sustainable manufacturing.

Dr. Srinivas Kota
Assistant Professor, BITS, Pilani, India

Biography - Dr. Srinivas Kota is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department at Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani, India. He has a PhD from Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, India. He had developed methods and associated software to help designers, for estimating a product lifecycle environmental impact and the associated uncertainty. He also had Post-Doctoral experience from Indian Institute of Science, India and G-SCOP Laboratory, INP Grenoble, France. His research interests are Eco-Design, Product Lifecycle Design, Sustainability, Uncertainty in Design, and User-Centered Design.

Dr. Prabir Sarkar
Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, India

Biography - Dr. Prabir Sarkar is an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical, Materials and Energy Engineering at IIT Ropar. Prior to joining IIT Ropar, he was working as an Associate Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, USA. At NIST, Dr. Sarkar was working on sustainable standards and manufacturing. He completed his PhD from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore on creativity in engineering design. He did his Master of Design also from IISc on Product Design and Engineering. He worked for Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) in the research and development division. Dr. Sarkar’s research interests include product design, sustainability, creativity, and design research. He is interested in developing new methods and tools for helping designers and companies to design novel, useful, and sustainable products, processes, and services.

Dr. Sharath Rao

Biography - Dr. Rao has been active in the area of renewable energy technology and energy policy for the past 15 years. Before taking this role, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist at Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), in the field of solar and energy policy. Dr. Rao holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mysore University and a PhD in Energy and Environmental Policy from University of Delaware.

Ms. Swati Meherishi
Senior Editor-Applied Science and Engineering, Springer

Biography - Ms. Swati Meherishi is Senior Editor of Applied Sciences and Engineering at Springer. She has an extensive experience publishing engineering content across two continents. She holds degrees in Physics and Philosophy from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. Prior to Springer, Swati has managed key engineering textbook portfolios in both India and the United States. At Springer, Swati manages a growing portfolio of journals, including both Springer-owned and key academic society journals, such as the Indian Geotechnical Journal, Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, and the Institution of Engineers (India) journals. Swati also publishes books across all domains of engineering and applied science. She has successfully launched several new book series, including a prestigious partnership series with the Infosys Science Foundation. Her key aims at Springer are to grow Springer’s Engineering and Applied Sciences Portfolio in key interdisciplinary areas and to generate institutional and corporate partnerships. Mr. Rakesh Maheshwari
Innovation Officer, National Innovation Foundation - India

Biography - Working as Innovation Officer /Scientist ‘C’ at National Innovation Foundation - India (NIF), an autonomous body of Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India; (January 25, 2006 onwards). He is involved in incubation of engineering based innovations by grassroots innovators including detailed documentation, value addition, validation, intellectual property rights, etc. He has done Masters in Technology in Farm Machinery and Power (Agricultural Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (2005) and Bachelors in Engineering in Agricultural Engineering from Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur, Rajasthan (2003).

Mr. Quentin Baret

Biography - Quentin is a French student that just completed his master's degree at Washington State University in Environmental Engineering. His master's thesis was focusing on assessing the impacts of aerosols from wildfires on crop growth in the Pacific Northwest through modeling. He was part of a program allowing him to complete simultaneously a master's degree at EPF, French school of engineering in General Engineering specialized on the Environment. EPF is the school in Sceaux, near Paris in France where he completed his undergrad.

Ms. Anna D’Alessio

Biography - Anna is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of California Berkeley studying Mechanical Engineering in the Laboratory of Manufacturing and Sustainability. Her research focuses on making manufacturing facilities more sustainable. This includes ways to modify a production line and optimize machines to decrease consumption and the use of renewable energy sources in manufacturing facilities. She holds a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware. Previously, she has worked for the National Institute of Standards and Technology through the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship where she worked with sustainability standards, indicators, and metrics.
